Long before starting the company quickly becoming known as the industry go-to resource for innovative ideas and technology, Inspection Depot founder Michael Rowan worked as a chartered surveyor in the UK inspecting million-plus square foot commercial high-rises and buildings for one of the country’s largest firms. This experience, coupled with his business skills, enabled him to start one of the largest and most successful inspection firms in northeast Florida in 1995 upon immigrating to the US.

Ever the entrepreneur, Rowan couldn’t ignore the need for a professional industry company which would offer a holistic approach to the home inspection industry. Inspection Depot, Inc. was born.

Opening its doors in 2001, Inspection Depot offered first-class inspection and business development training, marketing solutions, reporting systems and tools to its students. Over the years, business development products such as inspection PowerPoint presentations, The Home Guide Reporting System®, inspector illustrations and more were added to help inspectors build their businesses. Given Rowan’s acumen for conceiving industry-changing ideas, inspection reporting software was developed in early 2002. Using The Home Guide® principles, the new technology brought intuitive, narrative/checklist reporting to inspectors nationwide. Not only were the reports easy to generate, they were easy to understand from a consumer perspective.

As Inspection Depot grew, so too did Rowan’s ideas. Though some are considered too advanced for today’s industry, many have changed inspector’s and real estate agent’s businesses and buyer’s and seller’s lives.
